The mountaineer and the physicist visit.
Deposits from GA Hagemann's College
The exhibition will be on display until August 1, 2010.
She is an icon in Danish art history – the strong woman, the ruler of the world, who looks out over the magnificent mountain landscape: JF Willumsen's masterpiece A Mountaineer, which he executed in two versions. The 1904 version can be experienced at the JF Willumsens Museum in the company of its male counterpart, JF Willumsen's painting A Physicist.
The works are currently on display at GA Hagemanns Kollegium in Copenhagen, but are on loan to the museum while the dormitory is being renovated. In addition to the monumental paintings, the exhibition provides an insight into Willumsen's working process leading up to the final result. With generous loans from GA Hagemanns Kollegium and Victor Petersens Collection, one can follow the diverse expressions Willumsen tried out before arriving at the final presentation of 20th century role models.
LISTEN TO THE WORKS
A physicist, a writer, a gender researcher and a luxury fashion researcher offer their take on a reading of the works.
