Between the Stars and the Sky.
Dialogue exhibition with Viera Collaro
Extended until October 23, 2011
From May 28th, JF Willumsens Museum will literally shine with light. In the exhibition Between the Stars and the Sky painter and installation artist Viera Collaro brings the museum architecture and JF Willumsen's works into play with his abstract paintings and light installations. A huge neon sign on the facade, disco balls in the trees, and poetic light art in strong colors are some of the artworks that the audience can experience at the exhibition.
In Viera Collaro's artistic universe, light, colors, space and reflections are central elements. In the exhibition, her works appear in interaction with JF Willumsen's colorful and figurative paintings and monumental sculptures. Although Viera Collaro's and JF Willumsen's artistic references are fundamentally different, they nevertheless revolve around a number of the same themes: They are both preoccupied with nature, with the basic existential conditions of man and with the relationship between body and soul, and for both of them, colors and light are the basic ingredients of their artistic endeavors. In the exhibition, the two artists enrich and nuance each other's works and create a strong dialogue that inspires perception and contemplation.
Viera Collaro has worked consistently and intensely with the spatial processes, and she has arranged the exhibition so that each room has its own character and unity. In some of the exhibition rooms, the dialogue between her and Willumsen's works creates a dreamy and magical atmosphere, while the expression in other rooms is more powerful or sensual.
Between the Stars and the Sky is an extension of the many special exhibitions the museum has held over the years, where prominent artists have entered into dialogue with Willumsen's art to highlight different aspects of the works and to bring him into play with the present. The exhibition is a mix of new works created especially for the museum architecture and exhibition spaces and works selected from different periods of Viera Collaro's artistic career.
The exhibition is supported by the Knud Højgaard Foundation, the Beckett Foundation, the Oticon Foundation, the Toyota Foundation and the Danish Arts Agency.
