New Acquisitions
The museum’s collection contains approximately 6,000 works by J.F. Willumsen, including drawings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, and paintings dating from his early years in the 1880s until his death in 1958. A large part of the collection was donated by Willumsen himself when the museum opened in 1957. Since then, a number of works have been added through purchases, donations from private collectors, and acquisitions at art auctions in Denmark and abroad.
When a work by Willumsen is offered for sale, the museum assesses whether it complements the existing collection. This may be a particular motif, a distinctive painting technique, or a work from a period of the artist’s career that is only sparsely represented in the museum’s holdings.
Among the museum’s most recent acquisitions are the paintings Shoemakers’ Stall in a Square in Valencia (1912), Portrait of the Artist’s Daughter, Ingemor Gersemi Willumsen (1911), and Interior of Valencia Cathedral (1912), all of which are on display in the gallery.
